A fresh and deliciously fiery, tangy mint chutney made with mint leaves, lemon and onion and chilli.

Hari says

This is the first thing my mum had me making - from sending me out to the garden to pick the fresh mint leaves to pounding the mint and onions. I can still feel the tears from the onions being crushed. Today with my whizzy hand blender it takes 30 seconds to make. It is so simple and I cannot recommend it highly enough - it is so fresh and zingy that your whole mouth will be tingling with excitement and each mouth full will make you want more. A great accompaniment to any snack you can even cool it down by stirring in some yoghurt. Once you try it - I promise you this is something you will be making over and over again.

  • Ingredients
  • Method
  • Large bunch of fresh mint leaves
  • 1 onion cut into chunks
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 green chilli (add more for more heat)
  • 1 or 2 lemons

Method

  1. Slice the lemon in half and slice off the rind, remove any pips and chop the flesh into quarters.
  2. Remove the leaves from the mint, discarding the stalks and remove the chilli stems too.
  3. Place the mint, lemon, salt, chillies and onion into a blender and blitz until you get a fine blended chutney.

Served with

This is a fantastic fresh mint chutney that takes seconds to make and works well as a dip with all types of nibbles. This is the most fantastic zingy chutney you will ever taste!

Hi Kishore Thanks for your comment. Sometimes mint can be a bit dry so in this one I added a tomato to it to help add some liquid. You can also add carrot or red onion if you like. Thanks so much Hari

How much mint is in a bunch? 1 cup of leaves? 2 cups? Thank you for the wonderful recipes! I'm going to try my hand at the Seekh Kabobs!

Hi Kathy Welcome to the Hari Ghotra site - I really hope you enjoy the recipes. The mint chutney is a fresh chutney so will only keep for about 2-3 days in the fridge. Its so quick to make that I always just whizz it up fresh in y blender - takes seconds. I hope to hear about the dishes you cook and look forward to seeing some pictures too. Shout if you need help Thanks Hari

Great punchy flavours and so simple to make. The chutney was great used as a dip for poppadoms along with the more common mango chutney and raita.
