Melon Soup with a hint of Chilli

Melon soup with a slight hint of chilli and toasted cumin

Sometimes we all want to do something a little bit different and I think this very simple melon soup is great. It doesn't need any cooking and is perfect for a healthy summer starter. Melons have a wonderful sweetness that works beautifully with a little hint of chilli. With this recipe I have infused a little chilli heat into the melon and finished with some roasted cumin. Give it a go.

  • Ingredients
  • Method
  • 1 melon
  • 2 green chillies very finely chopped
  • squeeze of lemon
  • salt to taste
  • pinch of cumin seeds, toasted and crushed



  1. Cut open a melon and remove the seeds and remove the flesh from the skin.
  2. Place in a blender and blitz.
  3. Pour through a sieve to remove all the fibers.
  4. Add the chopped chilli to the sieved melon, mix and leave to infuse for and hour or so.
  5. When you are ready to serve, add a little salt and a squeeze of lemon and stir then sieve again.
  6. Pour into small bowls or little glasses to serve and top with some roasted cumin seeds.
