Salted Lassi

A cooling, refreshing frozen yoghurt drink

Hari says

This is an old school lassi - yoghurt, salt and ice water with served over ice with some cooking herbs. It really is the perfect drink to have in India's hot climate. Not only does it cool you down but it also replenishes those key salt minerals which your body loses in the heat. Yes, we don't have the hot, hot weather but these taste pretty good so do give it a go. If you can't find black salt then just miss it out.

  • Ingredients
  • Method
  • 500ml Greek yoghurt
  • 250ml water
  • 1 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin seeds
  • mint leaves to garnish
  • ice cubes

Method

  1. Put the yoghurt into a tall jug and add the cold water.
  2. Roast the cumin seeds in a pan and grind to a powder in a pestle and mortar.
  3. Add half the salt and the roasted cumin powder to the yoghurt mixture.
  4. Blend everything together with a whisk until it is smooth. Check the seasoning and add a little more salt if required.
  5. Put the ice cubes into the glasses and pour the lassi in. add a couple of mint leaves to the lassi.
